Lately you might have noticed some work on the rope railings along the marina. Jay Mitlas was nice enough to get some photos of the new netting being put up between the rope railings. I am guessing this is to prevent any little kids from taking a quick dip in the marina.

Pool entertainment

Well starting at the beginning of this year I was getting emails from guests complaining about the pool side activities and how loud the music was. It got so bad even CMs that work other areas complained about it. After a while I heard they reduced the level of the music and it got a little better. When I was there in October it was not only loud but it seemed like kids were not really interested in doing the activities. I listened to the girl trying to get the kids to participate by yelling over the microphone for 20 minutes before a single kid would play. I have to say I don’t see why they need a microphone to talk to kids that are 3 feet away from them. Then the music was so loud that the bartenders could not hear the guests. I heard some comments from guests that were no happy and left the pool deck area.

Just a few weeks ago I was sent photos of the activities being moved over to the quiet pool for a few days. I spoke to the Polynesian about this and they said it was not successful. They had many complaints about it being over there so it was moved back. That same week it was observed that the activities were back at the Volcano pool but with no music and microphone. In past years they use to do the kids activities on the beach with no microphone and if they wanted some music a small boom box was used and was not disturbing anyone that I could see. I think the kids activities are fun and important but to have them be that disruptive is not a good idea.

When contacting the resort they said no one had sent them any complaints about the music and they even checked through the last 100 comments with none mentioning it. If everyone that contacted me would contact the Polynesian they would have a better idea of what may or may not be a problem at the resort. They really do read the comments so make sure you let them know about your experience, good or bad.

Holidays at the Polynesian

For Thanksgiving Kona will have a Holiday Menu for lunch and Dinner.

Update as of Nov. 22

‘Ohana will replace the Chicken on the skewers with turkey and will be extending its hours. from 11/19 to 11/27 breakfast will be offered a half an hour later (11:30am) and dinner will be a half an hour earlier (4:30pm) with extended hours on Thanksgiving (2:00pm to 10:00pm)

The same extended hours for breakfast and dinner will be observed on 12/18 to 01/01)

The menu for Kona has not been finalized but an example of what they did in 2010 is they had a special Thanksgiving menu with a Traditional Thanksgiving Feast added to it.
