They are adding Theme park view room category to the Hawaii longhouse (also called Magic Kingdom view since that was what it was called when it first started). These are existing Lagoon view rooms that have unobstructed views of the castle. I am surprised they did not do this back when they added this category to the non-club level rooms. Basically you will pay more for a guaranteed unobstructed view of the castle. Does that mean that a Lagoon view room will be blocked? Well over the years I use to post what rooms were blocked and what were not because that was one of the top questions I would get. Let me give you my observations about Lagoon view rooms in Hawaii. There use to be a handful of rooms blocked by trees located next to the building and some rooms had the castle blocked by trees out at Sunset point or palms on the path around the beach. Over the years they have removed many of the trees from around the building and even took out the palm that was located on the path that blocked some of the rooms view of the castle. Even if you were in a blocked room you could still see much of the lagoon. Some rooms even had a totally clear view of everything with one tree or bush out on the beach blocking just the castle or part of the castle. I would have to guess that 80% or more of the rooms have views of the castle. Does that mean that all those rooms will get jacked up rates and a new category? I am guess it will. They will not release the room numbers that will be affected yet because people are booked in those rooms as Lagoon View right now so they cannot change it in the system. Once I get the information I will update my maps and category list on my Hawaii longhouse page.

Just my opinion on this change based on my own experience and comments from people who visit my site. The economy is still affecting most people and driving up prices and reducing amenities or keeping amenities the same for more money is the wrong way to go. Some might think it is good business but lower occupancy says you are eliminating customers. The bottom line may still show good numbers because of the increased rates but less people means less spending all over Disney property. Also many of the now more expensive rooms are being given up as upgrades so your neighbor may not even be paying the high price they talked you into paying for the same room. This kind of mentality does not exactly create loyalty to a company.

Now adding the Theme Park view category was a good idea because now you pay for the view you want and no worrying about if your view will be blocked but essentially Disney is admitting that some of the lagoon views were better than others and should be a higher price. Now my problem is that since the booking for these rooms starts tomorrow but people are booked in these rooms now under the current cost of Lagoon View Club level then they are saying that in 2009 these rooms are worth X amount of dollars and even rates for 2010 were published saying that these rooms were a certain value. Now to me they should take the rooms that don’t have as good of a view (admitting that some have a lesser value) and reduce the rate to be in between the cost of the Garden view and the lagoon view. This would be the right thing to do on so many levels and would show to me that someone in Disney Corp. actually cares about the customer.

Unfortunately they are not the ones that have to bear the brunt of the angry guests. The CMs that don’t make these decisions are the ones that have to deal with that so remember that before you take it out on someone at the resort.

Pool slide closed

The Volcano pool slide is having some work done to it and will be closed from November 3 to November 20th.
