Resort Music
A question I get very often is where can you get the music that plays or use to play at the Polynesian Resort. Well it was never offered for sale but some of the songs use to be on some CDs that you could purchase at the resort. I have run across a few on CDs I have and I have even heard them when I have been other places. The most recent was last year when we were on the big island (Hawaii) at the Kona airport I heard one of the songs that played at the Polynesian Resort.
If you are reading this then chances are you heard the songs on my main page. So when did it all start? Well my records from the resort say that the sound system was installed in 1993 so I am assuming that this is when the original loop started but not having been there in person I can only go by what the resort records say. There have been reports that there were different tracks from 1993 to 1995. There might have also been music in the main buildings before the soundsystem went in around the grounds but someone that was around back them would have to let me know more about that.
In June 2010 reports from guests were that they had switched over to a new loop. Some said they heard a mix of the old and new songs and then eventually it was all the new loop. This is what is playing at the resort now.
People still ask me what the name of the old songs were and who the artists were. I use to have a partial list and ran across a few of the songs myself but never posted it anywhere. Recently I was lucky enough to run across a great site called Magic Music and Jay at MagicMusic.net has spent a lot of time going through just about every Hawaiian/ Tahitian CD that exists to identify the songs. He has put together a great list of the songs, albums and artists for the original loop and also has one for the Christmas loop and is working on one for the new loop that he says he identified 82 tracks for so far. If you would like to see the list, download the songs or albums you can get all that information at his Polynesian page http://www.magicmusic.net/playlists/category/95-disneys-polynesian-resort/
Other places to hear the Polynesian music is at Mouseworld Radio along with songs and sounds from the parks or just about anything Disney.
MouseWorld Radio is also available on most mobile platforms. You can listen in the car or on the go with your iPhone, Windows Moble Smartphone, some Blackbery models and now the Driod/Android OS phones.
Interestingly enough as I was writing this up I was listening to Mouseworld Radio and one of the Polynesian Resort songs came up. Must be a sign.
Another favorite of mine to hear Disney music is Reedy Creek Radio. Lots of fun stuff on this site. You should go see what it is all about.
For more great places to get music from the Polynesian Islands you can go to Island Beats. At Island Beats you can download the very best in Hawaiian Music, Polynesian Music and other Island Music from around the world. Over 20,000 tracks from Pacific Island muscians from Hawaii, New Zealand, Samoa, Tahiti and more.
You can also visit the web site of Ernest Puaa, Da Barefoot Warrior’s for some of the best Island music I have heard. Those of you who went to Tikifest might have gotten his CD. He has a few albums on his site for purchase and you will not be sorry you ordered them.
