Happy Birthday Polynesian
Well officially the resort opened as the Polynesian Village on October 1, 1971 but the opening ceremonies were on October 24, 1971 so the Polynesian celebrates its birthday on the 24th. The opening ceremonies is what the Electrical Water Pageant was created for and it has changed and grown since then but still exists today. (photo from www.omniluxe.net/wyw/poly.htm)
The ceremony was the first official Luau for the resort and the luau dinner show would be out on the beach as it was until 1973 when Luau cove brought a cover and location to the show. Here is a copy of the original luau official opening ceremony from October 24, 1971. Many times you will see something in the lobby that the staff does to recognize the day. By the way I want to take a moment to say Happy Birthday to my wife Tara also since she was born on the same day. Also I do realize that I said 39th birthday in my email newsletter but I did not fix it to say 38th before it went out so Happy 38th to both Tara and the resort.
