April Fools
By now you know my old site shutting down was the truth but the April Fools was that I have this new site. Thanks to the help of Matt Turk my Polynesian information and photos have a new place to live and if you are reading this then you found it. There will be much more to come and I still have a lot more to add so you will be seeing things change and grow.
Polynesian Resort News
Well as many of you have read about Disney has been continuing to lay off in all areas or many are asked to retire early. Well as of March 24th Vince Valdes (Polynesian GM) was asked to retire. I have not heard the future plans for a GM at the Polynesian but for now the Grand Floridian GM will be overseeing the Polynesian. Not sure yet if this is good or bad.
There have been some continuing small changes to amenities from budget cuts. The greeting baskets that people staying in the suites get will be replaced with something else and the chocolate postcards that club level guests get are being replaced by a new chocolate treat. There is word that the children’s sand pales might go away also but let’s hope the changes stay small.
Reports back from people that have just stayed there seem very positive which is a good sign.
Wyland Galleries will be closed Monday April 6th for some work to be done to it but should open back up on Tuesday the 7th.
Many people have seen the longhouse have green roofs lately. I see many talking about it on the forums and if you did not figure it out already the green is a primer they use to refurbish the roofs.
The Polynesian is supposed to be adding cabanas to the beach that can be rented for full or half day in April. No one has reported seeing the construction yet. These are similar to the ones at the Grand Floridian and are also going in at the Contemporary. I am surprised no one has reported seeing any of the work being done on them but when I was told about them they were planning on having them ready for April. If someone gets a photo of them being built or done I would love it if you sent me a copy. If they go along Grand Floridian pricing, they will be $60.oo for a 4 hour afternoon or morning rental or $110.oo for the whole day (10:00-7:00)
I have seen an increase in people signing up for my news letter and I know many of you are new to my site or news letter. I just want everyone to know that I am always looking for opinions on the resort, trip reports, photos of things being worked on, changes at the resort etc. to add to the web pages. Also I am happy to put a photo of your group at the Polynesian on the soon to be created again “Friends” page. We are working on something for the site that I will need everyone’s help with. Your assignment is get a photo of your room view from your sliding glass door and let me know what room number it is.
Tikifest 2009 news
Tikifest is getting closer and we are past the halfway point of selling out the party. Also the rooms are getting low on categories since some are taking advantage of the low rates who are not going to the party. Make sure you book both or either soon. Also I fixed an error I had on the Tikifest page that said they had Tree House Villas for Tikifest week. Magical Vacations does have them at an extremely low rate but for October/ November. Go check out Magical Vacations new site and get a quote or sign up for Tikifest today http://www.magicalvacationstravel.com/mv/index.php
Also make sure to pick up a new 10th anniversary, Tikifest 2009 or Ho’omahana 2009 shirt at Café Press http://www.cafepress.com/polytikiman
I just want to say thank you again for everyone’s emails about the site going away and all the people that wanted to help with the site. I hope you enjoy the new site and there is much more to come on it. Keep in mind that it still needs some work but it is almost there. Also it will be nice to not have to worry about it shutting down because of the bandwidth. The site has really been worth all the effort because of all the great people I have met because of it and I hope to see you at the Polynesian.
